Paul Ford
TALES OF THE CITY

Mixed media, collage, pine and glass
The sculptural form of the human ear is fascinating and almost as truly particular to an individual as a fingerprint. This work serves as a memento, a commemoration of my late father who was born and brought up in the east end of London between the wars. Echoes of anecdotes he shared with me are evoked by collaged sections of an old atlas of the city, concentrating on the areas he described to me and I could not resist including Old Ford alongside Stratford and Bow. The redrawn boundaries, in the form of reconstituted street maps, are lent personal significance through memory and emotion. Metaphorically, this is the ear that listened, preserved.
