Paul Ford
TRANSFORMER

Picture
Lead, wood, steel and glass
Initially, the appearance of the work may suggest some form of Victorian medical or engineering instrument or a teaching model. The viewer is required to move around the work to fully observe the relationship between the two cases. This connection is animated by the illusion of mutability created by the back to back mirrors and the similar though contrasting forms contained. The play between internal and external and the seen and imagined blurring of boundaries is key to the work. The two heads articulate two distinct but related states of mind, suggesting the poles of the introvert and extrovert or of suffering and release perhaps.
