Karl studied for his BA (Hons) Fine Art at Isle of Man College and Liverpool John Moores University under the guidance of Ian Coulson whose encouragement to “think outside the box” enabled him to push his artistic boundaries and to embrace all forms of art and every type of media. Karl's preferred medium is to work with heavy textured gels and acrylics.
Karl's dyslexia is a major frustration and multi-tasking is difficult; however, he has pushed himself to overcome these negative feelings. The challenge of having to resolve problems as he encounters them has developed his confidence and self-belief in his artistic ability. Most of all, however, he hopes what he has achieved, notwithstanding his disability, will give confidence to others who are similarly challenged.
Reading and writing are not Karl's forte, so he finds painting or creating what he likes to call “sculptured paintings” a great way to express himself. Karl loves texture and movement and each piece of his work is unique in itself, as each piece has a different feeling or mood that comes from his inner most thoughts.
