Maureen Kennaugh Maureen ‘paints with needle, stitch and thread’ using largely free motion machine stitch, densely stitching to build up texture and detail using many colours and shades. Colour and texture is key to her work. Her inspiration comes from a variety of sources – very loosely – people, places and plants. While enjoying producing figurative pieces, often with a humorous touch, she also looks to nature, flowers and weeds for inspiration. Before completing a City & Guilds Diploma in Stitched Textiles, as a designer/maker Maureen produced designs for magazines such as ‘Classic Stitches’ and ‘Needlework’. She has exhibited work both on and off Island and won prizes in juried exhibitions in England. |
